Students of the two English-taught master programmes „International Business and Intercultural Management“ and „International Tourism Management“ enjoyed an excursion to Hamburg within their Welcome Programme at HHN.

40 master students and two coordinators of HHN, 17 different nationalities, 5 days in one of the most exciting cities of Germany: a great opportunity to learn about interculturality, tourism and business. And last but not least: a great opportunity to have fun!

For some of the students, the trip to Hamburg was their first trip to a German city outside Heilbronn after arriving for the start of the winter semester in September.

Here are some of the highlights…

Thanks to a generous special arrangement for our university offered by the Hotel „Grand Elysee Hamburg“, the students were able to take a look behind the scenes of this marvellous Five-Star-Hotel during their stay. A guided tour through the hotel, a presentation of the hospitality concept and associated gastronomy concepts were also part of the programme.

On a guided tour through the Congress Center Hamburg – right in the middle of preparations for a special dinner event for over 5000 people – the students had the opportunity to gain insights into the management and organization of one of Europe’s largest convention centers.

Common ways of entrepreneurial thinking were questioned in the meeting with Uwe Lübbermann of “Premium Cola”. The co-founder of the beverage company explained his alternative business strategy and invited the students to rewrite the rules of business during his presentation and workshop.

The group enjoyed a presentation of the gastronomy concept and a guided tour through the brewery “Block Bräu”. Of course, the visit included a tasting of the two handmade beers produced by the brewery situated right at the famous “Landungsbrücken”.

The highlight on the last day was a guided bus tour through one of the most modern container terminals of the world: CTA Altenwerder. Accompanied by a security car with special permits, the students could observe how thousands of tons of goods are handled by cranes and computerized driverless transport platforms 24 hours a day, 360 days a year.

Besides the official programme, the master students had enough time to enjoy Hamburg and to discover its numerous touristic and cultural attractions.

And what about the problems with the breakfast?

The beds in the hotel were so comfortable that it was a real challenge to get up in the morning 🙂
